In year 2004, Chengdu ranks the first among all the cities in Southwestern China in the environment assessment exerted by Forbes on 660 cities in China.

In September 2004, TEEMA (Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association) put Chengdu the third in its 14 “Recommended Cities” and the fourth in its “Investment Environment” during its investment risk investigation conducted on 65 mainland cities of China.

In December 2004, Fortune (Chinese version) launched its “survey on the best business cities on the mainland of China” whose standard covers Business Environment, Business Cost, Labor Supply, and Life Quality. 40 major cities of mainland China were included in this survey, and Chengdu was listed in the Top 10 cities (the only candidate city in mid-west China)

Chengdu has been awarded the following prizes: the Scroll of Honor by UNCHS (Habitat), Best Sample Prize in 2000 in World Human Residence Area, Pioneer Prize for Local Government in 2000, and was listed one of the ten “cities with strongest dynamic economic strength” elected by CCTV (also the only one in Southwest China).
